Tampa Therapist, Ross A. Cannon, MA, LMHC #MH6647Ross A. Cannon, MA, LMHC #MH6647

Ross Cannon, a Florida licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), brings over 20 years of skilled and compassionate counseling experience to his work with adults, couples, teens, children (ages 7 and up), and families. His skills help people strengthen marriage and family relationships, move past depression, anxiety, and addictions (including sexual addictions), and find greater connection with themselves, with others, and with God.

With professional warmth and a kind sense of humor, Ross works collaboratively with each client to increase awareness of all the factors contributing to the identified problem. Next, he works with clients to develop an effective treatment plan that: 1) emphasizes the client’s unique strengths and skills; 2) clarifies and modifies any problematic thought patterns; and 3) encourages the client to put energy into mental, physical, and practical ways that will have the most positive impact on the client’s functioning and situation.

In his work with families, Ross brings his experience as a certified instructor in S.T.E.P. (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting). He has been featured on radio programs and has provided local workshops on effective parenting skills.

Before becoming a mental health counselor, Ross earned an undergraduate degree in mass communications from USF and worked in television broadcasting for 13 years. After sensing God’s call to help people in a more direct way, he completed a master’s degree in counselor education in 1998.

The depth of his counseling experience has given Ross a well-rounded approach to helping people with a variety of concerns. He worked as a treatment counselor in the Hillsborough County Department of Children’s Services helping youth diagnosed with significant behavioral challenges and counseling adolescents at high risk for criminal behavior. Later, Ross worked at the Hillsborough County Runaway Shelter Program to reunite runaway teens with their families. Ross also has extensive experience coaching/counseling adults with chronic physical and mental health conditions.

A Tampa native, Ross is married to his high school sweetheart and together they raised two adult daughters. He and his wife are active in their local church. Ross is “all in” with the mission of Life Connections (Galatians 6:10) and with his commitment to his growing family locally.

Ross joined the clinical team of Life Connections in January 2020.
