KatherineMcKinneyPhDDr. McKinney is the Director of Life Connections Counseling Center. Dr. McKinney specializes in adult therapy for individuals and groups (ages 18 and up). Her training and experience prepared her to treat depression in both men and women, with a subspecialty in the proper diagnosis and treatment for mothers facing post-partum depression and related anxiety. She has extensive experience working with adults and single parents dealing with grief and loss; she serves regularly as a community volunteer for facilitating coping skills and restoring hope in grieving families. Dr. McKinney also works with men and women to improve their relational issues, anxiety, work/family balance, life transitions, health and wellness.

Dr. McKinney follows the motto “worship, grow, and serve,” in her own life path and in her work with clients. A warm, relational, and collaborative counselor, she helps clients to identify the roots of their core issues and to generate step-by-step plans to address problems and improve their lives.

Dr. McKinney’s holistic understanding of how body, mind, and spirit impact a person’s functioning helps equip her clients with understanding, clarity, and skills to improve their effectiveness in fulfilling the many roles they juggle in modern life. She wants to make every session count as she empowers clients to make positive changes. She considers all the work done at Life Connections to be strengthened by God’s love, wisdom, and power.

Dr. McKinney serves in a leadership role for the LCCC team and its operations by overseeing our budget, organizing community outreach for free and low-cost educational events held regularly at local churches and community centers, and chairing our weekly team meeting that incorporates prayer time and clinical case discussion.

Dr. McKinney graduated with honors in psychology from Goucher College, Baltimore. She worked as a research assistant for the National Institutes of Health in Maryland. Then she earned her PhD in adult clinical psychology (health emphasis) at the California School of Professional Psychology, Berkeley-Alameda.
